Almost 400 public buildings, jobsites, and institutions are known to have issues with asbestos exposure. This includes places such as oil refineries, shipyards, schools, power plants, and churches.
According to the Environmental Working Group Action Fund, between 2,626 and 4,088 people have died from asbestos related diseases in New York State between 1979 and 2001. Note there is a huge discrepancy because the government didnt start tracking mesothelioma deaths until the 1990s.
