Dr Robin Rudd MA MD FRCP

Robin is Co-Director of Barts Mesothelioma Research. He is a Consultant in Medical Oncology at St Bartholomews Hospital. He trained in medicine at Cambridge University and St Georges Hospital, London before undertaking research into industrial lung diseases at the Royal Brompton Hospital. Robin was a founder of the London Lung Cancer Group one of Britains most successful clinical research collaborative groups.

Robin is known around the world as an expert on the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma, lung cancer and other asbestos-related diseases.

Dr Jeremy Steele MD MRCP

Dr Jeremy Steele MD MRCP

Jeremy is Co-Director of Barts Mesothelioma Research. He is a Consultant in Medical Oncology at St Bartholomews Hospital, the Royal London Hospital and the London Chest Hospital. He qualified in medicine at St Georges Hospital, London in 1989. After training in general medicine and intensive care, he moved to the Royal Marsden Hospital where he treated his first mesothelioma patient.

At the Institute of Cancer Research he undertook doctoral research into paediatric leukaemia and brain tumours. Jeremy moved to Barts in 1997 where he has worked closely with Robin Rudd ever since and in 2000 he was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Sylvia Lawler Prize. Jeremy is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Mesothelioma Interest Group and numerous other mesothelioma clinical and research groups in the UK and abroad.

Dr Mike Sheaff MRCPath

Dr Mike Sheaff MRCPath

Mike is Consultant Histopathologist at Barts Mesothelioma Research and at the Royal London Hospital. He trained in medicine at Barts and the Royal London Hospitals, and now leads the laboratory research programme for the group. Mike is well known as an expert on the diagnosis of mesothelioma and other thoracic cancers.

Dr Dean Fennell PhD MRCP

Dr Dean Fennell PhD MRCP

Dean is Visiting Senior Lecturer in medical oncology at Barts and Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist and Consultant/Senior Lecturer in medical oncology at Queens University, Belfast. Dean received degrees in Pharmacology and Medicine from UCL. After basic specialist training at the Hammersmith, Brompton, Guys and St Thomas Hospitals, he completed a PhD at UCL in Experimental Cancer Pharmacology.

Marie Evans

Marie Evans

Marie is Barts Mesothelioma Researchs senior research nurse. Marie trained as a nurse in the London area and has over twenty years experience in mesothelioma clinical trials and lung cancer research.

Astero Klabatsa MSc

Astero Klabatsa

Astero is a research fellow studying for a PhD degree in mesothelioma biology. She graduated from Lancaster University with a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Biomedicine. Her research involves the study of the mesothelioma core-apoptosis pathway and the mechanisms of drug resistance.

Kate Leng

Kate is personal assistant for Barts Mesothelioma Research. Kate has been working with Dr Rudd and Dr Steele for almost a year. Kate is able to provide information about clinic appointments, x-ray bookings and fundraising events.

Sue Morgan and Annie Reeves

Sue and Annie are our thoracic cancer specialist nurses. Both of them have extensive experience of patients with mesothelioma. Sue and Annie aim to help mesothelioma patients with all aspects of their care, such as symptom control, booking of appointments and liaison with community services.
