“Working” Your New Year’s Resolution

Working Your New Years Resolution

Posted on Updated on

FMerry Christmas and Happy New Year!

With the beginning of each new year comes talk of our new year resolutions: eat better, exercise, spend less money, etc.   I know it seems early to start working on a change but studies show that you may be more successful if you start in December.  Considering how much time we spend at work each day, we really should make some work-related resolutions as well as personal. Have you ever thought about making an ergonomic workstation resolution?

Here are a few things to think about:

Posture. Are your forearms and thighs parallel to the ground when keying?  Are your feet flat on the ground?  Do you sit up straight in your chair and not hunched over or in some other awkward position?  Do you change your posture about every 8-10 minutes?

Keyboard. Is your keyboard approximately an inch below your writing surface?  Is your mouse on the keyboard tray? Is the keyboard tray level or at a slight negative tilt?

Chair. Is the back of your chair in the unlocked position so that you can stretch throughout the day?  Is the seat pan not touching the back of your knees?

Monitor. When you look straight ahead do your eyes rest in the top 1/3 of the monitors screen?

If you answered no to any of the above questions, then why not resolve to make some ergonomic changes for 2013.   Id like to hear about your work-related new year resolutions and good luck with all your 2013 goals!
